OUR OCEAN 2014

Whether you live on the coast or hours from the closest beach, we all depend on the ocean. The ocean is critical to maintaining life on Earth, contributing to our livelihoods and our well-being. Yet, the ocean is facing significant challenges, like unsustainable fishing practices, marine pollution, and ocean acidification. The good news is that there are solutions.

That’s one reason the Department of State is holding its first Thunderclap to bring awareness to what each and every one of us can do to create a healthier ocean. Sign on to join our efforts to help protect our ocean at http://goo.gl/kGos3a. #OurOcean2014

“Growing up along the coast of Massachusetts I developed a powerful connection to the ocean at an early age.”  On June 16 - 17, Secretary Kerry invites you to virtually join the Our Ocean conference, which will bring together experts from all over the world to chart a sustainable future for the ocean. http://goo.gl/hWx8k3

Working toward bringing together classical and pop music audiences, this dynamic quartet presents both genres with an innovative and fresh sound. Their energy has led them to many collaborations including with the Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Matt Alber. They will close their tour in Hungary with a celebratory joint concert with Cosmos Trio and the students of Snétberger Music Talent Center. Dear All,

On behalf of the organising committee we are happy to announce that the English and American Studies Institute, University of Pannonia, the American Corner Veszprém, Eötvös Károly County Library and the Petőfi Theatre of Veszprém will organize the sixth annual festival of amateur theatre in English on April 25-27 (Friday-Sunday), 2014. The 6th National English Language Drama Festival in Veszprém, 2014 intends to provide opportunities for theatre-lovers to prove their talent on stage in English. Any productions from any college/university and secondary school are welcome. Plays must be in the English language and should keep the audience in its seat for 20-90 minutes.
We look forward to productions:
• from any college or university and secondary school as long as the cast is made up of Hungarian students speaking English as a foreign language
• the shows are in English and the running time does not exceed 90 minutes but keeps the audience in its seat for at least 20 minutes.

Different, valuable prizes will be awarded to the best performances as well as to actors and actresses in two categories: adult and secondary school category based on the decision of a distinguished jury.

The festival (for the participants) will be totally free of cost.

What we offer for the participation:
• high quality and real theatre experience in the Bujtor-Latinovits Studio Theatre of the Petőfi Theatre of Veszprém (this year the festival might have multiple locations)
• experienced staff (settings and lighting)
• valuable gifts and awards
• professional jury from various fields of the profession so as to maintain diversity (literary scholars, experts in theatre studies, actors/actresses, directors, theatre personnel)
• valuable programmes
• nice and welcoming atmosphere
• (the most important) the possibility for secondary school students to work/play together with adult players/university students (which seems to have been a very motivating factor so far)

Participants will have to pay for the accommodation (approximately 3000-3500 HUF per person per night) and travel expenses, but otherwise everything will be attended by us.

Important deadlines:

Application to the festival: Midnight, November 5, 2013 (NO EXTENSION POSSIBLE)
This is to be done in email. Please send us the name of the group indicating that you want to participate in the festival. We will then put you on the list of players.
Submission of final play titles and duration of plays: Midnight, December 5, 2013 (NO EXTENSION POSSIBLE)
We only accept the application if you are on the list of players made on November 5, 2013.

Submission of the final jury form, posters and cast sheet (samples will be attached to e-mails for the participants): 31 March, 2014

To our greatest pleasure there is an overwhelming interest for the Festival each year. This means, however, that this year we have to stick to the deadlines, so please keep in mind that there will be certain groups that will have to be turned down should the number of applications exceed the limits. Nevertheless, individual questions and requests are always welcome.

For your information, the Festival has got a Facebook profile (National English Language Drama Festival in Veszprém).

Please like it if you have ever participated and liked the Festival. Feel free to tag the pictures and write comments and any feedback. This profile is visited and updated by the organizers daily, so keep yourselves up-to-date on Facebook!

Please, circulate this call for plays among those who might be interested!

Sincerely Yours,

László Katona and Boglárka Falussy
chairs of the organising committee
