We provide accurate, unbiased information about all accredited U.S. higher education institutions, up-to-date and accurate information on issues related to the U.S. educational system, arts, sciences, and economy. In addition, the AC focuses mainly on topics related to education, culture and business in the context of the bilateral relations between Hungary and the U.S. We have a reference library with about 360 titles, 167 videos (83 VHSs and 84 DVDs), 2 CD-ROMs, 25 different magazines and newspapers which are all accessible to the public.
In Veszprém, the American Corner is the only U.S. State Department affiliated office which provides accurate and helpful information on U.S. universities, foundations, high school exchange programs, and the U.S. education system in general. The AC is part of a U.S. State Department controlled world-wide network of some 450 centers, which operate similar information services but it also has a unique function being an Educational Advising Center. To reach our goal we provide various services to our customers. One-on-one advising is a key tailor-made service for individuals. We also give basic information and practice opportunities on tests such as the TOEFL, GMAT, GRE, SAT. We organize outreach programs related to U.S. education (e.g. Fulbright grant opportunities) and educational advising participates at regional educational and job fairs, too.
Support services:
Besides providing basic services, we organize conferences, meetings, exhibitions, and performances. The American Corner has strong institutional allies in the city and the county of Veszprém. Besides the host institution (Eötvös Károly County Library), the City Council of Veszprém and the Veszprém County Council are the two major financial supporters of the AC. In terms of our programs, the American Embassy in Budapest, the Fulbright Commission in Budapest, or the Institute of International Education are some of our most favorable collaborators. The AC hosts various presentations given by them.
We also arrange meetings for American professionals who intend to create new links and business in the region.
