The American Corner Veszprem organized its first successful charity event called Thanksgiving Charity Reception on December 9, 2009.

The event was held in the big conference room of our host institution, the county library. This year we celebrated Thanksgiving two weeks after its real time bringing it a little closer to our end-of-the-year celebrations. With this Thanksgiving Reception we intended to call attention to the importance of supporting disadvantaged children in Veszprem County and the importance of charity.

The program included welcome remarks from AC Director Judit Bertalan and Marta Talaber, vice president of the Veszprem County Government and the patron of the event; introduction of the beneficiary foundation "Mi is Vagyunk"; a short musical performance by Gyorgyi Modri, actress from the Petofi Theater Veszprem and the Silent Auction of the donated objects and gifts.

The program was a financial hit. We received 26 donated items from businesses, organizations and individuals, and succeeded in selling 25 of them at the event and so collected somewhat more than HUF 150,000 for orphaned children. There were some very interesting items on sale e.g. wine glass sets, paintings, pictures, theater tickets, wellness services, books, gift sets, etc. (See the full list of donated items and all our sponsors attached.)

100% of the donations went to Mi is Vagyunk Foundation, who will spend the whole amount to improve the living standards of children living in foster care or children's homes in Veszprem County.

About 40 invited guests bidded on the items, among them representatives of institutions, teachers, students, friends of the AC Veszprem and members of the television and print media.

A nagykövetség január 23-tól kezdve várja a kérdéseket a http://forum.usembassy.hu honlapon. A nagykövetség honlapján ( http://hungarian.hungary.usembassy.gov ) szereplő linket követve szintén eljuthat a webfórum oldalára.
